The body of the Audi R8 Coupé V10 quattro weighs just 200 kg. This low weight is due to the combination of aluminium and carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). However, lightness and high performance alone are not the be all and end all for a high-performance sports car: the forces acting on them must also be handled perfectly by vehicle's architecture. The Audi R8's sophisticated framework construction of extruded profiles on the front and rear of the car ensures that this is the case. It contributes to extremely high torsional stiffness, which in turn is the basis for the direct, precise handling and quiet vibration behaviour of this super sporty vehicle.
